About Me

Web developer, software engineer, front-end ninja, back-end guy are some of the many terms used for developers. I don't consider myself any of these really. My main goal with every project is to analyze the problem and figure out how it could be solved with code. Whether the solution uses my current skills or if I need to learn a new language or framework, I strive to use the best tool for the job.

I am Todd Kersey, a developer based in Indianapolis, Indiana. I have been developing web-based applications for almost a decade. In the past, I have worked with and for some great companies. From enterprise to small business to non-profit clients, I have helped many types of organization to reach their goals on the web. I enjoy developing solutions and want to work with others who feel passionate about their work and their projects.

Work

NALIT 2016

Screenshots of NALIT web app

Technologies: Ionic, Angular

Problem: The State of Indiana was hosting a conference called National Association of Legislative Information Technology (NALIT). They wanted to provide the conference’s first mobile app to give attendees an easy way to navigate the schedule and Indianapolis.

Role: In this project, I developed the application and collaborated on the design to ensure the interface is user friendly.

Kevin Harvick

Technologies: ExpressionEngine, HTML5, CSS3 (Sass), PHP (CodeIgniter)

Problem: Kevin Harvick is a popular and successful NASCAR driver. His website was due for an upgrade and needed to be made responsive. In addition, he needed to add additional features like presenting his schedule, adding race photos, and pushing his social media outlets.

Role: For this website, I worked with the designers to ensure the requirements were met and prototyped the initial interactive wireframes. Then, I built out the front-end and the ExpressionEngine back-end to make each page/section editable by the marketing team.

IMA Collection

Technologies: Python (Django), HTML5, CSS3 (Sass), JavaScript, ElasticSearch

Problem: The Indianapolis Museum of Art was looking to put their object data online so objects can be viewed whether they are on display in the museum or not. They wanted the public to be able to experience and/or research the objects without needing to be physically in the building.

Role: The IMA Lab team collaborated on this project and each team member was responsible for a particular part of the project. My role consisted of setting up ElasticSearch and building the interface to display the result, apply filters and paginate the objects. This included building Python scripts that pulled data from a Postgres database and inserted it into the ElasticSearch index.

IMA Conservation Science Lab

Technologies: WordPress (with ACF), HTML5, CSS3 (Sass), JavaScript, Foundation

Problem: The Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Conservation Science Lab needed a place where researchers can review tutorials about how certain storage materials affect artworks. The website needed to display data about chemical compounds and be easily editable as new researchers were coming on board to write their own information within the CMS.

Role: On this project, I worked with the CS Lab to determine what would fit their needs best. We determined building a WordPress site would help them meet their goal and allow them to create accounts for any researchers creating content. Then, I worked with the designer to make sure we met their needs and I built the front-end and back-end of the website.

Alfred Jacob Miller Online Catalogue

Technologies: Python (Django), HTML5, CSS3 (Sass), JavaScript, ElasticSearch

Problem: Alfred Jacob Miller was an American artist from the early 1800s who captured early Native American and Fur Trading lives through his paintings. The Ricketts Art Foundation, The Buffalo Bill Center of The West, and the Museum of the Mountain Man wanted a place where all of available artworks could be compiled and presented as one large collection.

Role: For AJM Online Catalogue, I worked with the project manager to ensure we were on track with the needs of all 3 organizations. I took the designed mockups and built out the front-end with a Django admin interface for editing content. in addition, I set up the ElasticSearch instance and scripts to index data as artworks are added into the back-end.
